Vorta

The Vorta are telekinetic humanoid race, which are genetically engineered or enhanced by the Founders, and they are also the administrative arm of the Gamma Quadrant business power called the Dominion. They are basically the link between the Founders, or the Changelings, and the rest of the Dominion.

In addition, the Vorta are also often in charge whenever the Dominion elite soldiers, the Jem’Hadar, are out on a ruthless mission. In fact, there are usually a Vorta stationed on the Jem’Hadar Attack Crafts along with 42 Jem’Hadar soldiers, and several are believed to be stationed on the larger Jem’Hadar Battle Cruiser.

Male Vorta

When an important Vorta dies, the Founders simply clone another one, which continues the work of it’s predecessor. This is quite in ingenious way of becoming almost immortal. Also they are immune to most poisons, which comes quite in handy when out on a diplomatic mission.

Their telekinetic abilities, enables them to send out a blue glowing sphere, capable of sending someone hurling towards the ground.

Facts:

The Dominion have torpedoes that go through Federation shields.

Motto:

We live to serve the founders

History:

The Dominion attempted to take over the Alpha Quadrant, sending its fleet through the Bajoran Wormhole from the Gamma Quadrant.

However their plan failed as the Federation and its allies soon beat the Dominion and Cardassians.

Ships

Notes: The Jem’Hadar battlecruiser is the Dominion’s large capital ship, similar in size to a Galaxy class starship, used for fleet engagements and a command ship for high ranking Vorta. Able to inflict major damage on enemies, several Starfleet ships would be required to take a battlecruiser down.

Notes: The Jem’Hadar attack ship is a small agile fighter, manned by a crew of a dozen Jem’Hadar soldiers and a Vorta commander, normally found operating in small hunter packs. Like all Dominion warships, the main weapons of the attack ship are phased polaron beams. When the Federation first encountered the Dominion, these beams were able to penetrate the shielding of Starfleet ships leaving them defenseless. The initial engagement with three attack ship resulted in the loss of the U.S.S. Odyssey, a Galaxy class starship, with all hands on board. Before the start of the Dominion War, Starfleet was able to salvage a crashed attack ship which allowed defenses to be developed against Dominion weaponry. Following their unquestioning loyalty to the Founders, Dominion attack ships will not withdraw from combat and have also shown the obedience to use their ship as a weapon by ramming large slow enemy cruisers.

Notes: The Jem’Hadar battleship was an experimental prototype warship built in the Alpha quadrant for the Dominion conquest. The battleship is twice the size of Galaxy class starship with more powerful weapons then any Starfleet, Klingon, or Romulan starship. The U.S.S. Valiant was destroyed by the prototype on an ill-conceived attack, as a result little is known about the true capabilities of the battleship.

Notes: Little is known about the Breen cruiser. Before the war what little information Starfleet had, reported that the Breen used organic technology in their ships. After the Breen joined the Dominion, Starfleet quickly discovered that the Breen possessed energy draining weapons that leave vessels dead in space. No defense was available until a Jem’Hadar attack ship was stolen which was being outfitted with the Breen energy weapon. Though possessing a terrifying weapon the Breen cruiser’s defenses are not any stronger then the average Dominion ship, easily destroyed by quantum torpedoes.

Captain Sisko’s adolescent son nurtures journalistic pretensions which have on occasion been used against the Dominion. A junior member of the Federation news service, Jake was the only Federation journalist to report on the Dominion occupation of DS9/Terok Nor from behind Dominion lines. Jake’s close relationship with his father and lack of moral fiber are believed to make him a prime candidate for subversion by the Dominion. Jake currently resides on DS9.

Chancellor Gowron

Former Chancellor of the Klingon Empire, Gowron managed to win the highly contended title of worst Federation Alliance strategist during his brief time at the helm of the Klingon’s forces. Gowron ascended to the Chancellorship when he was determined to be the lesser of two evils in contest against the late Council Member Durass’s illegitimate, Romulan conspirator, teenage son. Gowron met his ignoble end in single combat with the redoubtable Worf and was succeeded by Martok.

Chancellor Martok

Current Chancellor of the Klingon Empire and one of its less humiliating strategists. Martok’s long experience as a military commander has granted him some small measure of intelligence and he is considered one of the Federation Alliance’s most dangerous leaders. Martok succeeded Gowron as Chancellor when this honor was thrust upon him by the shirking Worf. Martok’s plebian heritage leads many in the Dominion to hope that the Klingon Empire will falter under his guidance. Latest reports place Martok on Quo’nos hunting targ.

Grand Nagus Rom

Criminal mastermind and underworld ring leader aboard DS9, Rom posed for years as the bumbling brother of a small time hustler while maintaining an unassuming post in the Bajoran Militia as a technician (second class). Rom’s true capabilities were revealed during the Dominion occupation of Terok Nor/DS9 when his sabotage of first the station’s graviton emitter and later the entire weapons array allowed the Federation to retake the station. With his true capabilities thus revealed, Rom cast off his cover and rose through the ranks of the Ferengi to be named Grand Nagus. His notoriously pro-Federation sympathies could mean an end to Ferengi neutrality in the Alpha Quadrant War.

Lieutenant Nog

Starfleet officer and son of the criminal mastermind, Grand Nagus Rom, this young officer has shot through the ranks of Starfleet in only a handful of years, no doubt due to the extensive connections held by his father. Nog currently serves aboard DS9 and the USS Defiant under Captain Sisko. Nog is unfailingly loyal to Sisko due to Sisko’s part in facilitating Nog’s appointment to Starfleet academy and his long standing friendship with Sisko’s son, Jake. His relationships with both Rom and Sisko indicate that Nog may one day grow to be a formidable adversary for the Dominion.

Quark

The small time hustler brother of Grand Nagus Rom, Quark, though possessing the typical Ferengi drive for profit, has been tamed by extensive contact with Federation personnel. His involvement with Major Kira’s terrorist cell during the Dominion occupation of DS9/Terok Nor indicates his lack of love for the Dominion, though his limited talents make him of little threat. Quark is considered most significant only in the extent to which he can be used to reach his brother.

Colonel Kira Nerys

Second in command of DS9 and believed to be a key agitator in inciting the Cardassian riots against the Dominion on Cardassia Prime, Kira has a long history in participating in terrorist actions, beginning with her part in the Bajoran Resistance which rid Bajor of the Cardassians during the Cardassian occupation of that world. Kira is considered dangerous and unpredictable, entirely lacking in moral fiber, and may be the real force behind the occasionally clever tactics employed by the crew of DS9. Unconfirmed reports place Kira near the Great Link following the Dominion’s strategic withdrawal from Cardassia Prime.

Kai Winn

Spiritual leader of the Bajoran people, Kai Winn ascended to this position following the loss of the beloved Kai Opaka in the Gamma Quadrant. Throughout her tenure as kai, Winn maintained a cordial relationship with the Dominion, the warmth of which was tempered only by her unfailing desire to protect her homeland. During the twilight of her reign as kai, Winn fell in with the unscrupulous Legate Dukat who led her to embrace the pah wraiths in an attempt to facilitate the restoration of Bajor. This unfortunate move resulted in Kai Winn’s death at the hands of Dukat in Bajor’s notorious fire caves.

DS9 Stories/News: Dominion Leaders

Thot Gor

This shadowy and mysterious character joined the Dominion as part of their alliance with the Breen. Thot Gor proved himself a capable and effective leader of the formidable Breen forces allied with the Dominion. The favor which Thot Got found with both Weyoun and the Founder proved a source of distress to Legate Damar and may have preciptated Damar’s betrayal of the Dominion.

Cardassians

Legate Dukat

Unpredictable, savage, and mentally unstable, Dukat commanded the mining station Terok Nor during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor and later went on to help forge the alliance between the Cardassians and the Dominion. However, his lackluster military strategy is considered one of the key factors in allowing the Federation to retake Terok Nor/DS9. The death of his traitorous daughter Ziyal at the hands of Damar led Dukat to mental collapse and imprisonment by the Federation authorities. After escaping confinement, reports placed Dukat throughout the Alpha Quadrant, allegedly proselytizing for the cult of the pah-wraiths. These reports were confirmed by Dukat’s possession by the Costa Mogen, during which he murdered Jadzia Dax and temporarily sealed the worm hole linking the Gamma and Alpha Quadrants. Confirmed reports from reliable Dominion sources indicate that Dukat later transformed himself into a Bajoran through plastic surgery, presumably in an attempt to further infiltrate the cult of the pah-wraiths. Nothing is known of Dukat’s current whereabouts.

Tora Ziyal

Beautiful angel of light and mercy, Ziyal was the half-Bajoran, half-Cardassian daughter of Dukat. Forced to work in a dilithium mine during the early days of her life, Ziyal was eventually liberated from this dreary life by her father. Though initially ashamed of Ziyal for her mixed heritage, Dukat eventually came to recognize her for the perfect creature of goodness that she was. Unfortunately, Ziyal fell in with the criminal element during the Dominion occupation of Terok Nor/DS9 and was persuaded by the members of Colonel Kira’s terrorist cell to assist in the liberation of the criminal saboteur, Rom. For this betrayal of her people, Ziyal was murdered by Damar, sending her father into a void of insanity from which he never emerged.

Legate Damar

Dukat’s successor as commander of the Cardassian forces allied with the Dominion, Damar abandoned the familial fold of the Dominion allies presumably after pollution by the Federation captives, Worf and Dax. After turning against the Dominion, Damar encouraged his forces to do the same with some limited success. He received assistance in his crusade against his former allies from the noted terrorist Colonel Kira Nerys. Damar was killed in an ill-planned assault on the Dominion headquarters at Cardassia Prime.

Legate Broca

This lumbering oaf served as commander of Cardassian forces and liaison to the Dominion following the defection of Legate Damar. An uninspired and uninspiring leader, Broca distinguished himself only in his unswerving loyalty to the Dominion. However, Broca was ultimately executed by the Dominion when the Cardassians unanimously turned against their Dominion and Breen allies.
