DS9 Stories/News: All Things Breen Part (4)

Thot Gor

Thot Gor

This shadowy and mysterious character joined the Dominion as part of their alliance with the Breen. Thot Gor proved himself a capable and effective leader of the formidable Breen forces allied with the Dominion. The favor which Thot Got found with both Weyoun and the Founder proved a source of distress to Legate Damar and may have preciptated Damar’s betrayal of the Dominion

I can’t stop laughing!

To be fair though, I think Dumar walked in to the room, and his halting upon entering coincided with coming into the frame.

tintiringa

….

Must be an overwhelming Breen Charisma because I never saw Weyoun laugh that much with either Dukat or Damar.. MissRindaDiLibda

….

Maybe he just has a thing for the Breen….It’s that sexy voice LOL

seekertrth

….

I think Weyoun was turning the charm on the Dominion’s new ally. At this point, any pretence of equality between Cardassia and the Dominion was gone, they were a vassal, and Weyoun took every opportunity to remind Damar of it by humiliating and degrading him.

I dont know why but i must have watched this 20+ times. and its funny every time.

“..oh I can barely keep my eyes open from laughing… So we threw Damar’s stuff out into outter space.. AND he has a cat that he talks to, all the time.. hahaha OH Damar..”

ArturoHdz

….

That’s actually Weyoun (who’s been treating Damar as a Dominion lackey) deliberately ignoring him as in “Oh, you’re not important enough to notice until you’re right in front of me.”

Heh, I knew Weyoun’s eyesight was bad, but… :) And those breen helmets don’t look as if they’re designed for preipheral vision. :)

There’s lots of things funny about this scene. In an earlier scene, Weyoun’s clone had just been killed by Worf. Damar was really happy cuz he hates Weyoun. Then a shortwhile after he walks into the war room, and a brand new Weyoun clone is laughing his ass off. It’s also funny because the Breen don’t speak. They make this terrible warbling noise and they’re all pretty evil. What could he have said to make Weyoun laugh THAT hard?

mastacsg

….

[Just a correction there, The Breen do speak and it's all out of Lou Reed music album]

….

I think he was ignoring him deliberately in an attempt to be rude.

theinquisitor

….

Yeah, this was just build up to Damar betraying them – tired of being ignored and riddled by the Dominion.

philyburkhill

Hahaha, when I looked at this I laughed harder than Weyoun. Excellent.

Nice Breen Entrance there!

In which case Weyoun calling him “General” was just his translation of “Thot”? That makes sense…but personally I prefer a different explanation for “Thot”, because of the Damar comment. When Damar says “that’s the equivalent of a Legate, isn’t it?”, Gor dismisses him by saying he needs his translator adjusted. I always assumed that meant “Thot” was akin to “sir” or “mister”, not a rank. On the other hand, it occurrs to me that maybe it is a rank and Gor was being dismissive of Damar’s authority – perhaps he meant “Thot is superior to Legate, not equivalent“.

Vice Admiral
….
Obviously the writers figured giving us two virtually indistinguishable commanders during the last leg of the show would really help to flesh out the Breen in our eyes.
….
Weyoun and Thot Gor

If Tweety Bird were a Breen, would it have said

“I Thot I Thot a puddy tat”?

….
“Gods don’t make mistakes!” as Weyoun reminded Damar once.

Maybe it’s just me, but I always thought that Thot Gor was much taller (than everyone).

The writers always intended to keep the Breen mysterious.
Fleet Captain

Okay I really need to get caught up in the series because the only thing I remember about the Breen is that they never took off that off road helmet of theirs, had glowing green eyes, sported a Predator like jump suite, and had a creepy ass mechanical voice that was all, “GRRRR RA GUR RA!…. GRRRRR!”…. They still made great allies to the Dominion. Would have owned the Alpha Quadrant if Damar hadn’t tucked tail and ran.
Dukat was better. :/

What you remember about the Breen is pretty much everything we know about the Breen

… My faith in the founders and the dominion will keep me safe….And did we ever see a Breen without the helmet on? I was sure there was one episode where one Breen was lying about, dead on the rocks with its helmet off. Looked like a gooey alligator… but that could have been some odd dream I had back in the 90′s. Not sure. :/

Your dream. We never saw a Breen without a helmet off…or without anything else off, for that matter.

I HAVE A FORM OF AESTHETICS!Wait….so… they still had helmets on for the whole series? What a pity. :/

I would say opportunism. They went at the Dominion’s help at the last critical moment to save their ass, so they would be equal members of the partnership (rather than the client state, as Cardassian became).

And if it hadn’t been for

1) The lucky klingon engine’s re-design
2) The stupidity of the Founder for not capturing/destroying all of the escape pods in Chin’Toka

The Alliance was done for.

Lieutenant Junior Grade
….
It’s possible they were manipulated into the alliance by The Founders. I also remember the Female Changeling offering them Romulus and Earth as well as Cardassian territory at various points …

Rear Admiral
….
If you ask me, the Breen were fools to think they’d be immune to the same fate that befell the Cardassians, for long.
….
Damar, to his credit did try and warn the refrigerated fools but alas they didn’t listen.
(It was also one of Damar’s greatest scenes in my opinion)
….
Breen Soldiers/Generals

Breen Soldiers/Generals

You’ve got to wonder whether how long the Breen would’ve been content to be the practically defunct Dominion’s allies if they had won the war, though. Unlike the Cardassians, who joined the Dominion in their moment of greatest weakness, the Breen apparently joined at their moment of greatest strength.Cardassian territory was something of an inducement, but I have to imagine more rational minds in the Breen Confederacy were thinking that if it was Cardassian territory they wanted, they could have just joined the war on the Federation’s side…
….
The Breen strike me as doing things only if they benefit the Breen – ‘Never turn your back on a Breen,’ say the Romulans, of all people. They join the Dominion at a point where they’re fighting the combined Federation, Klingon, and Romulan forces to a standstill – three of the largest and most powerful organizations in the known galaxy. This despite having only the resources of Cardassian space ever since the Prophets cut off their Gamma Quadrant reinforcements. To the Breen, that likely does indicate that the Dominion would ultimately prevail – better to jump on board when they can be of help, gain some decent property for helping to defeat the Dominion’s enemies, and not have to beg for new territory following the inevitable victory when the Breen wouldn’t be able to bargain for something they had no part in taking.
….
Thot Gor & Weyoun

Thot Gor & Weyoun

It wasn’t really a standstill, though. The Federation had apparently reconquered virtually all of their lost territory (or at least surrounded pockets of Dominion-held space where the big salient stopping at the Romulan border had been). By the time the Breen joined, the Dominion was fighting in its ownterritory. It’s like saying Germany after Operation Bagration in 1944 had fought the Soviets to a standstill…Oh, and apropos of the thread title only, I loved the Breen voices. Some might disagree, but I found them hilarious.

….
Huh. Maybe I’m just misremembering the facts, then. It’s been about a year and a half since I watched the episodes. I could have sworn they were about evenly matched. And I loved the voices as well – just so very different from everything else we’d heard, since normally even the aliens were speaking English (I know why, of course, since we couldn’t have major plot points revealed in Cardassian or Vorta speech without subtitles). Sorta like how we never get translations for Chewie’s growls, but Han always knows what he’s saying.
